Latvia and Armenia discuss bilateral relations and international current affairs

On June 5, 2023, the annual political consultations between Latvia and Armenia took place in Riga. Latvia was represented by Andžejs Viļumsons, the Deputy State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Armenia was represented by Paruyr Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the consultations, the development of bilateral cooperation, cooperation in international organizations including Latvia’s presidency in the Council of Europe, Latvia’s candidacy for the UN Security Council elections, and the dialogue between the European Union and Armenia were discussed. The participants also discussed current international issues, including the situation in the South Caucasus region and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The officials expressed satisfaction with the successful cooperation in the field of bilateral relations and emphasized the need to continue developing the political dialogue and economic cooperation between Latvia and Armenia.

The previous political consultations between the two countries took place on June 14, 2022, in Yerevan.
